Yea, so it’s about mid-March…and I’ve been terrible about updating y’all on what’s going on. So sorry about that.
Last week I spent down South. I started the trip on Friday Feb 27th and went down to Lexington, KY for the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. I was so excited to be there, because a lot of my Alabama athletes were there and I hadn’t seen them in about a year. It was super good to see all of them and get to see them compete, which is one of my favorite things to do. I love seeing people in their element – seeing them do what God created them to do…whether it’s an athlete performing, a singer singing, etc. I like to just sit back and watch God’s creation do what it was created to do. A-mazing!
Then that Sunday – March 1st I flew out of Lexington down to Birmingham and let me tell you, it was an interesting trip. My flight from Charlotte to B’Ham was cancelled and then the next flight I got on was delayed an hour. So, I got into Alabama 3 hours later than expected and I was greeted by snow!!! I was sad, because I was hoping to get to my church down there, but I missed it. But, I got in about 12:30, 1 o’clock and I had tickets for the women’s game at 2pm. I’m thinking I’ll just make it just in time – after getting my luggage and the rental car. Well, the guy at the rental car place, bless his heart, was so sweet, but taking his sweet ol’ time! He gave me options of a car and I was in such a rush, and I really didn’t care, so I just pointed to one. I got to my roommate’s house and he said, “Dude, you got an egg!!!” It turns out the car I chose was a Yaris…it litterally is shaped like an egg. And to make matters worse, it was white! All I could do was laugh! I eventually named him “Elmer”. We ended up getting to the game about half time. My friend Brittney and her little girl, Aubrey came with me. It was good to see the girls down on the court doing their thing. I also got to see a lot of people I used to work with.
Monday morning rolls by and I’m thinking I’ll work on newsletters and then go out to my storage unit to see what size rental truck I’ll need. Well, lo and behold I went and left the key for my storage unit at home in Ohio. Go figure! Luckily my roommate was getting home Tuesday evening and could overnight it Wed to get to me be Thursday…it was a crazy mess!
The week was really good. I went out to Ole Miss to talk with their team about our summer projects and got some who expressed an interest. I got to see a lot of friends again and unfortunately, I missed a lot of friends. Then Thursday comes along and I went to drop Elmer off at Enterprise and then had to go pick up my rental truck…this guy…let me tell you, it was just ridiculous! For some reason, even though I asked for a 10′ truck, they decided to give me a 16′ truck. Why??? I have no idea!!! But going to Elmer to Frank (yes, I named my rental truck, too) was just hilarious! I was so nervous when I got into the truck and I was wondering how in the heck I was going to drive this thing 9 hours up to Ohio. Again, all I could do was laugh. But the seat was comfortable and I stopped up in Nashville for lunch with a friend. Then me and Big Boy Frank the Tank headed up to Ohio. And of course, the weather decided to warm up when I was leaving, although I did bust out the flip flops the last couple days
Needless to say I was a pile on Saturday. I unloaded Frank then went to drop him off. It was such a nice day and I walked the 4 miles back. It was great! I moved stuff in, rearranged things and just was lazy. Harry Potter was on, so I watch them…3 movies (like I said, I was a pile!)
Now I’m back into the office. Again, Monday for Training Center we went on another field trip down to Cincy to a Mosque. It was fascinating and this time we had someone give us a tour and a lil lesson on Islam. Yesterday I went out to Central State with the track team and I was informed that I’ll be coaching the long jump for a couple guys. This will be interesting! But I’m looking forward to it. I will also be joining them on their spring break trip down to Florida. They’re going to go down there and do some training. This will be a great opportunity for me to begin to develop some relationships with the athletes and coaches so I will be better able to minister to them and serve them.
I’m beginning to put together the pieces of my ministry and seeing things come together just makes me that much more excited.
Thanks for your support, one way or another…please pray that I am able to keep my eyes fixed on the Lord as I continue to piece things together.
