Yup, that’s right…on my first official day on staff, I went on a field trip! For the first two years on staff, we have to go through the Training Center…basically get training on different things and we meet every Monday. This semester we’re studying different religions, so yesterday we went down to Cincy to tour a Hindu Temple. It was really interesting to see the different gods they have and what their “purpose” is. We were supposed to have a tour of the temple, but apparently there was some miscommunication and we didn’t really get one. However, one of the priests (I think they’re called priests) would answer some questions, although his English wasn’t that great, so we couldn’t get indepth answers. I think it’s fascinating how they have one god for different issues, so if you needed a blessing for your education, you would pray to one god, and if you needed a blessing for money, you would pray to a different god. The priest said there would be about 500-600 people who would come into the temple to pray on weekends and they would wait in line to pray to a god. My question (and I’m not wanting this to sound like I’m making fun, although when I say it, it sounds like it…) is if you need a blessing for education and money (let’s say your a college student), do you have to get in one line, ask for your blessing and then get in another line to ask for the other blessing?

Another thing that fascinated me was that their gods are confined to the temple. I think there’s another god who is everywhere (again, I don’t know too much, so if anyone does, they can enlighten me), but the gods that were in the temple are only in the temple and you have to come to the temple to ask for a blessing. I love that our God is everywhere and we can talk to Him anytime, any day, any where. I love the fact that we can to go Him for EVERYTHING and know that He will bless us (not always in the way we want, but He will bless us).

After the temple, we ate lunch and then went to see Slumdog Millionaire. Great movie! And very interesting…I highly recommend it.

Today I’m supposed to take the day to get “settled” so I think I’m going to drive around, make a Target run and get a few administrative things done.  I will have to work on getting photos up soon. Thanks for reading!
