Born to Serve
Yesterday was my birthday and although I get caught up in the “it’s all about me” hooplah, I try to humble myself by remembering Jesus’ words in Matthew 20. James’ and John’s mother is asking Jesus that her two sons get the honor of sitting on Jesus’ right and left. I haven’t done much research on this, but to my understanding, those two seats were seats of honor…and a place to aspire to be.
But Jesus tells his disciples, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord over them, and their great ones excercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20: 25-28, ESV).
Jesus is God and if He did not come to earth to be served…one who deserves to be served way more than myself…what does that tell me? I need to serve as well. Jesus is my example. I love my new job, because God has put me in a position where my job is to serve others and just love on them. Yea, it won’t always be rainbows and butterflies, but it is so humbling and satisfying to be able to meet the needs, no matter how big or small, for someone else. Just to be honored by God to be in a position to help someone else. I just hope I don’t screw things up, and heck, even if I do, I know God is greater than that and He is our Master Painter.
But in all honesty, yesterday was great! I got to spend some time on campus at Central State with one of the track girls and work was good…we are filling up our rosters for our summer projects. The weather was decent (little chilly) so we got to practice outside. Then I was asked to go lift and of course I said yes…man oh man am I feeling it today! But it’s that good sore
Then I met up with some peeps from work to play ultimate frisbee. Then I got to enjoy a great Mexican dinner and great conversation with a new friend. Needless to say I was exhausted! But tonight the festivities continue, cause another guy on staff has his birthday today.
Thanks to everyone for the birthday love and wishes!
