Weakly Flesh
SCRIPTURE:
Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
~ Matthew 26:41
OBSERVATION:
Jesus, Peter, James and John are in the garden of Gethsemane and Jesus asked the three to keep watch for him, yet they keep falling asleep. Perhaps they could have used the Christian Energy Drink to stay awake. Let’s face it, we all have good intentions. We mean well and we want to follow through on things, but our flesh is just so weak and prone to sin. How often do we wake up in the morning with a list of things to get done that day and crawl into bed that night with hardly anything crossed off that list.
We need prayer. We need that constant connection with God to keep us alert and focused on what He needs us to get done. That connection with God will keep us from falling into temptation. He will keep us on our toes.
APPLICATION:
It’s easy for me to get lazy at times and it’s usually when I’m not reading God’s Word. It’s easy to justify my actions when I’m not in the Word. Yet when I’m reading and come across a Scripture that is so black and white, it is difficult to ignore.
PRAYER:
Father, thank you for the opportunity to be able to come to You with everything – my joys and my heartaches. Help me to stay alert and avoid the temptations in my life.
