Use Your Talents Wisely
SCRIPTURE: 1 Chronicles 14-15; Psalm 132; Matthew 18
Kenaniah the head Levite was in charge of singing; that was his responsibility because he was skillful at it. ~ 1 Chronicles 15:22
OBSERVATION:
David is instructing the process of bringing the ark of God to the City of David. The Levites, who had been instructed in Moses’ time to watch over the ark, were given specific instructions according to their skill.
APPLICATION:
God has given us all certain skills – gifts and talents. They are unique to each individual. Even if two people are gifted to play guitar, each person has their own trademark. Same thing with singers. Look at American Idol. They all can sing (at least the finalists), but they are all so different.
With these skillful talents, we are given responsibility. We are to use our gifts and talents for the glory of the Lord. We all have the responsibility to fulfill the Great Commission. Not everyone is called to full time missionary work or ministry. That does not exempt them. They see tons of people every day – at home, at work, at the store, on the commute, etc. We have a responsibility to reach people for Christ.
I have not reported to my full time ministry work yet, but that doesn’t mean I put off reaching out to others. I am a coach. I need to utilize my position, if only to plant seeds, or to be a positive example.
PRAYER:
God, You have given me so many gifts and talents, yet I’ve failed to use them for Your glory. Sometimes I keep them to myself and I don’t share with others. Please give me the courage and boldness to have that faith in myself to glorify Your name.
