SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 19-21; Romans 13
Many are the plans in a human heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. ~ Proverbs 19:21

OBSERVATION:
We can plan and plan, but God’s purpose trumps all.

APPLICATION:
It was the fall of 2003 and I had my life figured out. I was going back to St. Cloud to finish my last year of eligibility of track and put in one year of grad school. Once the year was over, I was going to move out to Colorado and work at a strength and conditioning facility. I was going to meet a cowboy, we were going to get married, live on a ranch and make babies. It was a beautiful dream! But it never happened. I don’t live in Colorado (still want to though!), I’m not married, I have no kids…basically, I have none of what I planned. God had something else in mind. Instead, I moved to Alabama and worked in Athletic Academics. I met a couple of guys who I let play with my emotions, I’m still single and moved in with newlyweds who in fact, did make a baby.

Alabama was definitely not on the top of my list of places to relocate to. I don’t think it was anywhere on the radar screen. But God got me there. No one else would hire me, so I had to go. And everything just seemed to work out. As I look back, it’s amazing how things just fell into place. Now I’m living back in with my parents in Minnesota with a tentative moving date of I have no idea when, to yet another state (not Colorado). If it would have been my way, I would have been in Ohio in August…and I would have missed my girls. If I had it my way, I would have been in Ohio in March…and I would not have had the blessing of coaching.

I think life is like traveling overseas. You have to pack and prepare and you know what you want to do and see while you’re there. But it rarely goes the way you had scheduled on paper. We’re then left with a choice – we can do one of two things – whine and complain about how things didn’t go as you planned or sit back, enjoy the ride and embrace yourself for what the Lord is bringing your way. It’s probably something you’d never imagine, but once it’s here, it’s definitely something you can’t imagine your life without.

PRAYER:
O God, thank you for not allowing some of my plans to prevail. I pray for the patience as I wait for Your purposes to unfold.
