Not Like the Other gods

SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 18-19; 2 Chronicles 32; James 5
Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of other lands? Were the gods of those nations ever able to deliver their land from my hand? Who of all the gods of these nations that my fathers destroyed has been able to save his people from me? How then can your god deliver you from my hand? ~ 2 Chronicles 32:13-14
OBSERVATION:
This was part of the message Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, sent to Hezekiah, the king of Judah and the people of Judah. Sennacherib had overtaken many other nations and has now turned his attention towards Judah. Sennacherib is mocking Judah for relying on the Lord for safety and victory. The gods of other nations couldn’t save them, why did Judah think their god could save Judah?
It’s quite simple, really. Our God is not like any other god. Our God is all powerful and at the same time totally personable. Our God is the one true God. He is the only one who can truly save and protect us.
APPLICATION:
I sometimes rely on other “gods” to save me. I try other sources, yet none come through. Well, some may work for awhile, or they treat the symptoms, but they don’t last because they don’t cure the issue. God is different – God is the one who will save and protect me and who will provide the necessary strength and endurance I need.
PRAYER:
Abba, my provider, my guardian, my rock. You give me peace, security and comfort whatn I need them so dearly. Thank you for all that You provide – now and in the future.
