SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 1-3; Titus 3
Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order that they may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives. ~Titus 3:14

OBSERVATION:
I love when I come across Scripture that goes along with a conversation I had just the previous day. Yesterday I was visiting with a couple to talk about my ministry. We were talking about how some kids, high school kids, college young adults, believe whole heartedly that they will become a professional athlete. This is an awesome dream to have! one that I myself had. Unfortunately, the percentage of people who actually make it to that elite level is quite small. Even more unfortunately, these athletes never envisioned themselves doing anything else. When their college career is over and they didn’t make the cut, they realize they’re at a dead end, because they coasted through college and never took advantage of the academic opportunities they saw every day for the past 4, 5 years. What happens to these athletes? Some we never hear of again. Others we hear about years later, but rarely in good light.

APPLICATION:
I was fortunate to have broken my wrist in college. My sole identity was based on the fact I was an athlete. When I couldn’t compete, I was lost. My identity was stripped away and I didn’t know who I was without it. But I realized there was more to my life than my athletic ability. That was only a part of me, not all of me. God created me to be way more complex than that.

PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord, for creating me as more than a one dimensional being. I pray for all the athletes that their vision is broadened and they realize they are more than just an athlete. And I pray they realize this before it’s too late.
