Let the Elephant Out
SCRIPTURE:
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. ~ Colossians 4:2
OBSERVATION:
Prayer is something we need to devote ourselves to. It is communication between our Father and us. It’s where we can receive confirmation, direction and assurance. It’s where we find love, peace and joy. It’s where we give thanks, express concerns and cry out. God is always up to something and when we commit ourselves to prayer and keep an open eye, we can see what God is up to. Better yet, we can become a part of it. And we should always be thankful for everything the Lord has blessed us with.
APPLICATION:
Every once in awhile, while I am reading, a common theme will jump out at me. The theme jumping out now is prayer. One thing that gets me is that I know God knows my needs, so why should I pray about them? Take a friendship you have…if it’s a really good friend, they usually know when you’re troubled with something – sometimes they even know what it is without you telling them. But until you talk about it, let them in, you let this huge elephant linger in the room and you both tip toe around it. When you bring your concerns to your friend, when you express your needs to God, the chasm you’ve created diminishes, the relationships can grow and healing can begin. God, just like our friends, want us to come to Him with our needs and our thanksgivings. He wants us to engage in constant conversation with Him.
PRAYER:
Father, I do not always come to You with my needs. I now realize it’s not about the content of what I bring to You, but the act of coming and the attitude of my heart that concerns You. I want to commit myself to constant, open communication with You.
hey jodi! i’m excited for you to come visit!
