SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 2; 1 Chronicles 11; Psalm 142; Matthew 14
On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted and had John the Baptist beheaded in the prison. ~ Matthew 14:6-10

OBSERVATION:
Woops, bet Herod didn’t see that one coming! It was something he wanted to do, yes, but was afraid of what the people would do. But he had no choice - he made an oath.

APPLICATION:
I was at a track meet with my girls and a couple of them sitting next to me were talking about going to the Caribbean - all of us.They then said one of the other girls was going to pay for us all - yet this girl wasn’t paying attention, yet heard her name, turned and said, “Huh?” One of the girls next to me said, “Isn’t that right?” and the clueless girl agreed. Yet she didn’t know what she was agreeing to.

Yes it’s a silly situation we’ve seen ourselves in many times. But how many times do we agree to go somewhere with our friends and not know where we’re going…only to find ourselves in a bad situation. How many times have we said, “Yea, I’ll do whatever,” only to be stuck with the crappy job no one wants - the one you secretly didn’t want. We need to be careful to what we agree, or what we say we’ll do. We don’t want to catch ourselves in compromising situations that may hinder our witness to other people.

PRAYER:
Father God, protect me from the things unknown to me and help me develop the knowledge of Your Word and the strength from that to make decisions that are pleasing to You. Amen
