I Want Their Faith
SCRIPTURE:
If the God we serve is able to deliver us, then he will deliver us from the blazing furnace and from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up. ~ Daniel 3:17-18
OBSERVATION:
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego have been threatened to be thrown into a fire if they do not worship King Nebuchadnezzar’s gods nor the image he created. But they remain faithful to God and refuse, even with the threat of death.
How many of us find it so easy to believe and have faith in God when we know He will deliver us from some situation and just know that things are going to get better…yet when we have no idea if we will ever be delivered or when we’re faced with death, do we still have that same devotion to God? Can we honestly say, “Even if God does not deliver me or save me from this, my faith will not waiver.”? Look at Peter in Matthew 26:31-35. He is so determined that he will not disown Jesus, but we all know how that turns out (v. 69-75).
APPLICATION:
I think of martyrs and how death looked them in the face and they still clung to their dedication towards God. I always believe that I will be the same way if face to face with that situation. But in the back of my mind is a tiny voice that whispers, “Would you?” I honestly don’t know what I would do. I want the unwaivering faith Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had – that faith that is so deeply rooted there is no way to budge me.
PRAYER:
Father, thank you for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to show me what true and absolute faith looks like. Whether they were to be saved or not, their faith would not budge. I pray for that same faith they had.
