Driftin’ Away
SCRIPTURE: Amos 4-6; Psalm 86; Titus 1
…yet you have not returned to me. ~ Amos 4:6, 8, 9, 10, 11
OBSERVATION:
Drought, locusts, plagues have occurred in Israel due to their disobedience. Yet after each occurrence, Israel still refused to return to the Lord.
What will it take for us to return to God? It’s usually when we’ve hit rock bottom, we turn to God. We figure we’ve got nothing to lose. When things are going well, we forget it’s because of God things are good. Yet when things go bad, we blame God, get angry at God and turn away. I believe God allows bad things to happen to us so we return back to Him. It’s also a reality check for us to remember who’s really in charge.
APPLICATION:
I have long lost my belief in coincidences. I also no longer believe that everything that has happened in my life did not happen for no apparent reason. I’ve noticed that when things aren’t going the way I’ve planned, or I’m not happy with my life situation, I usually see that I’ve drifted from God or I’m trying to do things in my own strength. For that reason alone, He has every right to step back and let me realize there are things I cannot do without Him. Other times it’s just the mere fact that I’m drifting away.
PRAYER:
I’m a drifter, Lord, this I know. Thanks for the reminders when I do and I just wish they wouldn’t have to be the types of reminders. However, You know what will catch my attention.
