SCRIPTURE:
In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
~ Genesis 2:9

OBSERVATION:
Look at the location of the tree- the middle of the garden. Adam and Eve probably walked by it or around it a million times each day. I wonder if they ever talked about it – if the ever wondered why they were unable to eat from that tree. Or I wonder if they never thought about it. The aged old excuse of, “because I said so,” from a parent was good enough for them and they never thought to question God’s motives.

But we all know that the serpent placed doubts in their minds. And he does that to us. He knows what will tempt us – what we walk by every day and he begins to plant questions. We need to recognize our tempting sins and remove them from the center of our daily happenings, if at all possible. We must not let this sin taunt us and beckon us.

APPLICATION:
Two tempting sins for me that I needed to remove from my sight were two boys. It wasn’t that they were bad people, they just weren’t good for me. They toyed with me, played with my emotions and were never really up front with me. I couldn’t call the mob and have them “take care of the situation”…what kind of Christian would I be? I couldn’t ask them to move and I knew there would be places I would run into them. But there were little things I could do. I could erase their numbers from my phone (which I did), I could delete them from my AOL Buddy List (which I did), and I could go to those places with friends (which I mostly did). What I learned was that to avoid a tempting situation, there are things I can do to avoid that situation in the first place.

PRAYER:
Thank you, Father, for giving me the strength to lose sight and remove tempting sins from my life. Thank you for giving me a purpose and something to focus on so I can avoid those tempting, sinful situations.
