Positive Thoughts

SCRIPTURE:
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praise worthy – think about such things. ~ Philippians 4:8
OBSERVATION:
It is so easy to dwell on the negative, to focus on the huge mountains that lie before us. But sometimes (not always), our negativity distorts the truth. The mountain is actually a hill, but we can’t see it for what it really is. Paul encourages us to dwell on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praise worthy. All of that is going to come from God. In times of distress, we need to focus on God so we can see things clearly, for what they truly are. And then we, with the Lord on our side, equipped with the armor of God, we can fight the battle before us.
APPLICATION:
I’ve been too focused on my mountain, wondering how I’m ever going to reach the top. Compared to where I was when I started this journey, this mountain before me is but a hill. My problem is not this hill before me, it’s my approach. Again, I’ve been trying to go with my own strength and power and pushing God aside. I’ve been spending less time with Him and more time in my self pity that I have lost focus on what God says is true. I’ve forgotten His promises and His love. I’ve forgotten Him.
PRAYER:
Father, help me stay focused on the truth, things that are noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praise worthy. Help me stay focused on You and together we can conquer this hill.
