ALSO, my wonderful friend Amy Price has directed me to a website that constantly cracks me up. Check out Stuff Christians Like. It’s highly entertaining and there is a lot of truth to what the guy blogs about (which makes it ridiculously funny).

Have been doing a horrible job of keeping everyone updated on what’s going on and I’m sorry about that. The last month has truly been a struggle as I continue to raise my initial financial support. But it seems when we are in the depths of the darkness, there we find the glory of God. When we realize we cannot do things on our own, we are forced to rely on Christ and it is then we are able to discover who He is and learn more about Him.

I have had many unanswered prayers during this time and I do not think it is an accident. I do not feel that God has ignored my cries nor forgotten about me. I think He is using this time for me to stop ignoring Him. I’ve been reading “Experience God” by Henry Blackaby and what I read last night is what I feel God has been doing through me. The author is describing the the story of the death of Lazarus. Jesus did not immediately rush to the cries of Mary and Martha to save Lazarus from death. He waited. This is what the author had to say about that:

“It seemed to me as if Jesus had said to Mary and Martha: You are exactly right. If I had come, your brother would not have died. You know that I could have healed him because you have seen Me heal many, many times. If I had come when you asked Me to, I would have healed him. But, you would have never known any more about Me than you already know. I knew that you were ready for a greater revelation of Me than you have ever known in your life. I wanted you to come to know that I am the resurrection and the life. My refusal and My silence was not rejection. I was an opportunity for Me to disclose to you more of Me than you have ever known.” And later he states, “Sometimes God is silent as He prepares to bring you into a deeper understanding of Himself. Whenever a silence comes, continue doing the last thing God told you and watch and wait for a fresh encounter with Him.”

I have experienced the greatness of my King during this time and although the last month has been really hard, it has been worth it because I have seen more of my God and the work that He can do.

I was sitting in my room this afternoon pondering over the awesomeness of our God. He completely WOWed me today. That’s a fantastic story, but not the purpose of this post. But I was sitting there, as my cat curled up in my lap, purring as he does best, and my eyes scanned across an old photo. It was a picture of myself and my two best friends in high school. We did a lot of crazy stuff back then. If those of you who know me now think I’m weird and crazy, y’all should have known me back then…there was little restraint on my weirdness. Some of the stuff we did was pretty ridiculous and I look back and wonder what we were thinking…or if we were thinking at all.

But as another thing popped into my head, the longer I lingered on that one, the more it seemed almost wise. One of my friends had started dating a new guy. Well, this guy was not from our home town (her dad lived in a different city) and the other two of us decided he needed to fill out an “application” if he wanted to date her. We weren’t doing it to be mean or anything, we just didn’t know him and wanted to make sure he was good enough for our friend.

Then I wondered, why don’t we do stuff like that these days? Our friends are our life and our family. They mean the world to us and when they hurt, we hurt. Yet sometimes we sit back as they go through hurt after hurt, pain after pain, failed relationship after failed relationship. Why don’t we take more of a part in our friends’ love lives…I mean we’re the ones they go to when things are great and when they get rough, it’s almost like we’re a part of the story anyway.

I know it’s easier said than done. People don’t want to listen to you when you tell them the guy they’ve been dating is a jerk, when all they see are hearts and stars. This guy could do no wrong. And it’s also difficult when our friends don’t let us into the difficult parts of their lives to let us help out. (This could lead to another blog for yet another time.)

I think we should take better care of one another…and let others in so they can take better care of us.

My current journey I’m on is like going on a hike. I packed my gear, I have my supplies and I set off on this journey into the unknown. I have an idea of what I’ll see, what I’ll encounter. I set off, full of excitement and optimism. Of course, I’m not alone (it’s bad to go hiking alone – anything can happen). But I don’t have the map, nor the navigational tools. After awhile, the honeymoon phase is over. The sun beats down on me and my muscles begin to ache for lack of endurance and I start to feel the weight of my pack. I wonder if I’m on the right trail. I even suggest going a different way. But my guide insists this is the correct path. I just need patience. The scenery begins to look the same, other times, I’m so focused on the trail so I don’t stumble and I miss the scenery. I want the journey to be over, but my guide is dilly dallying, pointing out different flowers, trees, the bugs even. Soon, I begin to see what he sees. I’m able to differentiate one plant from another. The scenery is vastly different. I don’t realize it, but I’ve slowed down. I take in everything. I notice the leaf cutter ants busily working their way across the path, the butterfly as it flutters from one flower to the next, the rocks themselves are as unique as fingerprints. My guide then tells me I’ve only got a couple more miles to the end of the trail. I don’t understand, but I’m sad. I started out on this journey, hoping to get to the end as quickly as possible. Now that it’s almost here, I don’t want it to end. I’ve forgotten the destination and I’ve so enjoyed the journey that I want it to continue. I want to stay here. But my guide keeps walking. My water is running low, so I know that I, too, must continue. But I continue with a different attitude. I look at every beetle as if it’ll be the last I’ll see. I take in the view and take a mental picture because I never want to forget this moment – this instant. But my guide keeps moving and I must follow. I begin to think about the destination again. I remember the initial excitement when I started this journey. I remember why I started the journey in the first place. My sadness is replaced with anticipation, yet my focus is neither ahead nor behind. It’s around. I keep walking forward, but I’m savoring where I am.

Hey everyone! Welcome to JT’s Tracks! I’m pretty stoked about this website because it will help me stay more connected to all of my ministry partners and keep everyone better informed about what’s going on with the ministry and myself. There are a couple of things I want to point you to:

First of all, the majority of my posts will be my daily devotions. I began attending Crossroads Church here in Cottage Grove and our pastors have encouraged everyone to daily get into God’s Word. It has been amazing! I follow the same daily reading plan they do, which will get through the entire Bible within one year – the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice. If you look over at my links, you’ll see one for Mealgroups. You can get the daily reading schedule there if you’d like to join with me in these readings.

Second, the links. Many of them are ministry related and are websites I visit frequently that I thought might be a good resource for you. The one non-ministry related site is my brother’s. It’s just an awesome site that I thought you’d get a kick out of 8^)

Some things are under construction – like my newsletters. I send these out once a month and will eventually upload all of them on here. I also want to put up photos and a prayer/praise section, which are in the works.

But until then, I hope you enjoy what’s up now. Thanks to everyone for your support!

with His love,
Jodi
